Studio photo of night fighter ace Helmut Lent, with Knight's Cross and Oakleaves. Postcard format, very good condition with minor signs of age. On the back "Major Lent Eichenlaub". Lent went on to become a Colonel (Oberst) posthumously in 1944 and received the Oakleaves with Swords of the Iron Cross on the 2nd of August 1943 and the Oakleaves with Swords and Diamonds on the 31st of July 1944. . At the moment of his death, the 5th of October 1944, he had a total of 114 victories. He crashed with his JU 88. During the approach of the airstrip of Paderborn his left motor failed and his wing dipped and touched a high-tension cable after which his plane crashed. All crew-members succumbed to their injuries in the next two days. The normal landing strip had just been bombed and was full of craters, therefore he had to land on a makeshift landing strip. Unfortunately the high-tension cable was overlooked. Agfa paper, postcard size.

Outstanding private portrait photo!!!!
