Paratrooper German cross in gold grouping to Stabsfeldwebel Hermann Israel, member within the Fallschirm-Jäger Regiment 3 as part of the 1. Fallschimjäger Division. Isreael who joined the army (16./ Infanterie Regiment 52) in the 30's was transfered in 1941 to the freshly formed Fallsch. Jäger Regiment 3 who was send in action for the first time in Crete. For his bravery in the field in Crete he received both grades of the iron cross on just a week from each other!!! With the iron crosses he also received the Kreta campaign cuff title in 1943. After securing the island FJR3 was send immediately to the Eastern front. Israel proved himself to be an outstanding and brave combat NCO as he received the Luftwaffe ground assault badge and a bit later the German cross in gold!!! The German cross in gold wears the extremely early award date 19.3.1942!! Isreael stayed withing the unit and was now transfered to Italy to oppress the American forces who just invaded. Israel was awarded the tank destruction badge for the single handed destruction of an enemy panzer on 4.11.1943. At that point the unit was fighting around the Sangro in the area of Tufilo, Palmoli and Torrebruna. Fallschirm-jäger regiment 3 stayed into combat in Italy for the whole 1943 and 1944.
Israel was KIA at some point after this tank destruction. The cause, place and date of his death are unknown and can not be traced inside of the Volksbund. On 10.1.1945 his wife, Else Israel received the widow chain (so called "Fallschirmjäger Treuekette") of the 1. Fallschirmjäger Division, hand signed by Generalmajor Karl-Lothar Schulz.
The group contains all the award documents of Israel, including the two extremely rare documents of the tank destruction badge and the paratrooper widow silver chain. It's unknown whether Israel who was a true combat paratrooper in the field actually received the paratrooper badge itself as he came from the Heer just before he was sent to innvade Crete. The group also includes many pre war paperwork such as the typical Bierzeitunge from the army regiments, shooting award documents etc.
Incredible and extremely rare and interesting grouping in several ways. A group which could use some extra hours of research!!
