Soldbuch to Kanonier J. Gschwandtner, member of the Gebirgs-Nebelwerfer Lehr-Ausbildungs Batterie 6. Equipped with his gear on 22.9.1943 in Wocheinder-Vellach, Gschwandtner was sent just over the border with Slovenia to the Pokljuka area.  On 15.12.1943 Gschwandtner most likely was killed by partisans during an expedition on the alpine plateau of Pokljuka. He was shot through the hearth and lungs. The Soldbuch was closed and a rare KIA entry was made on page 15. The Soldbuch remains in perfect condition and when I first opened it it didn't seem to have a photo inside. After going through the book a small civil photo of Gschnäder was hidden in the back showing him in a typical Austrian traditional outfit. On the reverse of the photo his name and day of birth. 

The 3rd Battalion of the 7th France Prešeren Strike Brigade, which numbered around 120 men, had settled in the Lovčev Hotel on Goreljek on Pokljuka. But it was attacked by two German companies from Bohinjska Bela (dt. Wocheiner Vellach). Break free from the encirclement! December 16th 1943 The battle lasted several hours.
