Letter from KZ Mauthausen 28.11.1941 to Herrn Josef Paur regarding the death of his son. Johann Paur apparently hung himself in the KZ after which they immediately cremated him in the crimatorium. Signed by Camp commander Standartenführer Franz Ziereis with extra ink signature in the corner.

Ziereis was the commandantderof the Mauthausen concentration camp from 1939 until the camp was liberated by the American forces in 1945. Ziereis fled with his wife on 3 May 1945. He was discovered and shot three times in the stomach while trying to escape. His corpse was later hung on the fence of Gusen I by former prisoners. Rare partly-printed D.S. as SS-Sturmbannfuhrer and Commandant of Mauthausen on camp letterhead,
