Very, very rare Staffelabzeichen of the Fliegerhorst housing this famous Jagdgeschwader!

The Fliegerhorst Ostheim was built in 1937 in the neighborhood of Köln (Cologne), east of the river Rhine. It served as the base for Jagdgeschwader 234, later renamed in Jagdgeschwader 26 Schlageter. The Geschwader was primarily equipped with Messerschmitt Bf109 airplanes and later also Focke Wulf FW190's. It took part in all major operations of the German army and also the protection of the Reich itself. The Fliegerhorst was closed after the German capitulation in 1945 because the airport Köln-Wahn was in close proximity (10km), so there was no use for it any more. The barracks still exist and are now used for housing, commercial purposes and a hospital.
