Studio photo of a member of the 87th Infantry Regiment, 1940. Postcard size, Agfa photo paper. Very good condition with minor signs of age.
Very interesting photo 'uniform-wise'. The photo was taken on July 6th 1940. The uniform is a so-called rock alter art from the Reichswehr with 8 frontal buttons, the cuffs like officer uniform cuffs and lower slanted inner pockets. The tunic also shows the very first eagle applied to the Reichswehr/Wehrmacht uniforms. The collar, collar tabs and the shoulder boards however have been replaced with the later so-called M36 style ones. Walter Fries was one of the commanders of the 87th Infantry Regiment.
