General assault badge award document to W. Knobloch, member of the Flak Panzer Jäger Abt. 245 as part of the 245. Infanterie-Division .
The 245th Infantry Division was formed on 8 September 1943 in the Rouen area by WW XI from Division "D", which was being formed in Bergen-Belsen, as a down-to-earth division for coastal protection in the west. The division had only two regiments. Each regiment had 3 battalions, a light and a medium tank destroyer company as well as a company of light infantry guns, making a total of 15 companies in the regiment. The weapons were very inconsistent and often included loot. After its formation, the division was deployed to the 15. Armee in France in the Dieppe area for coastal protection. After the Allied invasion of Normandy, the coastal defence division remained at Dieppe. In July 1944, a Panzerjäger Abteilung 245 was set up. In the course of the German retreat, the division had to retreat to Belgium, then to the Netherlands near Tilburg and Breda, and finally to Germany in the Netherlands near Tilburg and Breda and finally to Germany in the Weser area near Bremen and north of the Elbe in the Lauenburg region. The remnants of the division were taken prisoner in Ratzeburg and Mölln.
Fantastic piece from a hard to find unit!!
