Jagdtiger grouping Obergefreiter Franz Schröder. Schröder,  first as Stug crew member within Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 197 saw heavy action in the Crimea area. He was awarded with the Krimshield for this campaign and his participation in the siege and taking of Sebastopol.

On 1st April 1943 Stug-Abt 197 was re-designated as schwere Panzerjager-Abt 653 and fitted out with Ferdinand/Elefant tank destroyers. Schröder saw service with the Ferdinands on the Northern salient of Kursk and at Ponyri station for which actins he was awarded the EK2. The award document is signed by Lothar Rendulic, Knights cross and Oak leaf Swords winner. He was also awarded the panzer assault badge in silver. This document is signed by Georg Baumunk, German cross winner and commander of the Pz.Jäg.Abt 653. Schröder also received the east front medal, this document was signed by Ernst Freiherr von Jungenfield, German cross winner and commander of Pz.Jäg.Regt 656 to which Pz.JägAbt 653 belonged to at Kursk.

Members of the 1 and 3 schwere Panzer Abt 653 began test driving the new Jagdtiger on the 3rd September 1944 in Fallingbostel. In January 1945 Schröder was fighting American forces at the village of Rimling near Bitche in the Saar-Pfalz areanear the German border. All crew of Schröders Jagdtiger 134 were killed by a direct hit from a bazooka.

Photo's of the remains of the Jagdtiger 134 are well known, the shot down was also mentioned in the book "The combat history of German Heavy Anti-tank unit 653" by Karl Heinz Munch. It would appear that Schröders Tiger was knocked out by Sgt Charles Carey of the 100 Infantry Division. for which he was awarded with the medal of honour!

The grouping comes with extra research from the previous owner, who also visited the exact site of the Jagdtiger.

Absolute top grouping which was beautifully researched!!
